Not every high school athlete gets an opportunity to continue his or her sport at the collegiate level. But how many get to play in another country? Add to the list - however long, or short, it may be - Evan Isaacs, a junior lacrosse player at Wesleyan University of Middletown.

Isaacs, a goaltender who was a two-time team MVP and two-time South-West Conference (SWC) All Academic Team honoree when he was a standout at Newtown High School, is beginning his spring campaign.

Isaacs comes into the season having had a great lacrosse-playing experience in the fall. Isaacs got to play lacrosse across the pond while studying in London.

"The experience to play overseas was incredible," said Isaacs, a pre-med student majoring in molecular biology and biochemistry.

Lacrosse is not very well-known in the United Kingdom, Isaacs notes.

"They usually stick to soccer and rugby, so I had a great experience both as a player and a teacher. I got the chance to work with players who have played the game for a while as well as newcomers who were just starting, which gave me a chance to coach them on many basics which also helped me to review concepts that I have not thought about for a while," Isaacs said.

He played both with his school, King's College London, as well as for the University of London Union, which consisted of the best players from King's as well as University College London, and London School of Economics.

Isaacs also played hockey at Newtown High, and earned several accolades on the ice - not in the goal, but for scoring and setting up goals. The forward earned All SWC and All State accolades, and became the program's all-time points record holder. He was captain of both the lacrosse and hockey teams.
