State Senator Tony Hwang, State Representative Mitch Bolinsky, and representatives from The Arc Connecticut will attend an information session at C.H. Booth Library on Thursday, April 9. The discussion will concern proposed cuts in the 2016 and 2017 state spending plan that were presented by Governor Dannel P. Malloy on February 18, to the Voluntary Services Program, within the Department of Developmental Services.

“The Newtown delegates would like to provide a forum for families who would be impacted by those cuts to share their thoughts and concerns,” says a flyer about the event.

The Arc Connecticut is an advocacy organization committed to protecting the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and to promoting opportunities for their full inclusion in the life of their communities.

While the forum is designed for the developmentally disabled community, all area residents are welcome to attend.

Those expecting to attend are asked to make a reservations through Erika Pocock at Erika.Pocock@cga.ct.gov or 800-842-1421.

Local parent Christine Rowan, who spoke with The Newtown Bee recently about the services she and her family rely on through the Voluntary Services Program, said the forum is a chance to make a difference.
