Diabetes Symposium For Patients, Professionals At St. Vincent’s

BRIDGEPORT - St Vincent’s Medical Center of Bridgeport is sponsoring a free Diabetes Symposium for the sixth consecutive year. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, at St Vincent’s Medical Center, Hawley Conference room, located in the New Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care in Bridgeport. The Symposium will include programs for both professionals and patients and will provide the latest findings on the diagnosis and management of diabetes. The programs will take place from 8 am to 12:30 pm.

The Professional Program will feature the very latest innovations in the treatment of diabetes with St Vincent’s Attending Cardiologist Manuel C. Pun, MD, who will address “Coronary Disease and the Diabetes Metabolic Syndrome,” Daniel T. Stein, MD, Associate Professor, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, who will discuss the “Role of Incretins in Diabetes Management,” and St Vincent’s Chief of Endocrinology, Joseph Rosa, MD, who will speak on “2010 ADA Guidelines For Inpatient Diabetes.”

The Patient Program will feature St Vincent’s Outpatient Nutrition Educator Karen Novak, RD, MA, CDE, who will address “Diabetes: Myths and Misconceptions,” James J. Bednarzck, DMD, from New Haven, who will discuss “Dental Disease in Patients with Diabetes,” and Danielle Benaviv-Meskin, MD, Attending Physician at St Vincent’s Medical Center, who will address “Frequently Asked Questions in Diabetes.”

St Vincent’s President and Chief Executive Officer Susan L. Davis, RN, EdD, and Chief of Endocrinology Joseph Rosa, MD will give a welcome address. Dr Rosa has directed the program along with Michael Herman, MD, chairperson of the Department of Medicine at St Vincent’s.

Breakfast, refreshments, and a question-and-answer session will be offered at both programs.

St Vincent’s Medical Center is accredited for continuing medical education by the Connecticut State Medical Society and is an approved provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the Connecticut Nurses’ Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The symposium has been approved by St Vincent’s Medical Center for a maximum of three credit hours in Category 1 toward the AMA PRATM. Each physician should claim only those hours that he/she actually spent in the activity. Nurses will receive three continuing education credits.
