Susan Joan (Loveland) Cragin
Susan Joan (Loveland) Cragin, 79, currently of South Windsor, died March 14 in Vernon. She was the widow of Alan Cragin of Newtown.
She was born December 5, 1945, in Danbury to Jean and Harold Loveland of Monroe, where she grew up. She attended Monroe schools and graduated from Masuk High School in 1963.
She graduated from Stone School of Business in New Haven, and became a secretary, working in several law offices in Fairfield County, and later in Hartford.
She was also employed at The Newtown Bee where she met her first husband, Thomas F. McLaughlin. They had two children, Stacie Jean McLaughlin (now Gordon) of Ellington, and Scott Robert McLaughlin (Yeager), who predeceased his mother in 2020.
Susan is survived by two cherished grandsons, Colin Yeager and Jeffrey Gordon, both of Ellington; her daughter-in-law Barbara Yeager of Ellington; siblings Laurie Loveland of Sudbury, Vt.; Edwin Loveland of Rutland, Vt.; and Wendy Loveland of Sanford, N.C.; and a special cousin, Jan Bartow of Cooperstown, N.Y. She was also predeceased by her brother David in 2016.
Several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, and cousins also survive.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her family for her work ethic in her secretary positions; her skill as a needlewoman; her love of animals; and her generous heart; trips to Friendly’s with her grandsons, her love of Christmas and her beautifully wrapped gifts; evening chats and various adventures with her sisters; and first Good Humor ice cream cone.
There will be a special memorial service in Manchester later in the spring with interment in Monroe Center Cemetery.
