The Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee quietly announced this week that there will be a parade this year on Monday, September 5.

The longstanding traditional end-of-summer celebration was canceled in 2020 and again in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fundraising and planning will begin soon, a note in the Chamber of Commerce March 23 newsletter indicated.

The 2019 parade — the 58th annual parade through the center of town — was led by Grand Marshal Bill Halstead, chief of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company and retired Town of Newtown fire marshal. For the past two years, local resident has organized a farm tractor display and parade on Labor Day.
