Patricia M. Kenning

Patricia M. Kenning, 80, of Bethel died March 24 at the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut Center in Danbury, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Dermot J. Kenning. She was born February 22, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Mary Ellen (Campbell) and Patrick King.

Her five children and their spouses, Jim and Virginia of Newtown, Paul and Margie of Bethel, Mary Pat and John of Brookfield, Christine of Danbury, and Terence of West Dover, Vt.; her brother, Tom King of Mesa, Ariz.; cherished grandchildren Quinn, Sydney, David, Colin, Erin, Samantha, Sean, and Eamon; and other relatives survive Mrs Kenning.

She received her nursing license from Caledonian Hospital in Brooklyn. She practiced nursing at Caledonian Hospital and Kings Highway Hospital for 25 years.

Mrs Kenning moved with her family from Brooklyn to Bethel in December 1976. She and her husband were active members of St Mary’s Parish in Bethel, where Mrs Kenning was a Eucharistic minister and taught religious education to special needs children.

She was also a volunteer at Hospice for many years, and active with Meals On Wheels.

Mrs Kenning was a passionate Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and enjoyed watching her children participate in sports. She enjoyed spending summers in Cape Cod with her children and grandchildren. In retirement, she traveled overseas with her husband to visit family. In addition, she was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her book club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 27, at 10 am, at St Mary’s Church in Bethel. Interment will immediately follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel. Calling hours are Thursday, March 25, from 4 to 8 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
