Thomas W. “Walt” Kenny, Jr, 82, of Brewster, N.Y., died March 22 at the New York State Veteran’s Home in Montrose, N.Y. He was born in Manhattan, November 28, 1931, to Rose (McDermott) andThomas W. Kenny. Mr Kenny married Barbara O'Connor on September 10, 1960, in Belleville, N.J.

Besides his wife of 53 years, five children and their spouses, Kathleen and Patrick McCleary of Newtown, Maureen A. Kenny of Danbury, Thomas W. III and Janet Kenny of Poughquag, N.Y., Patricia and Garrett Anderson of Danbury, and Paul G. and Lisa Kenny of New Milford; two sisters, Patricia H. Coulter and Rosemary Weber; and 15 grandchildren survive Mr Kenny. His brothers Timothy and Peter Kenny predeceased him.

Mr Kenny received a bachelor's degree in English from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

The Kennys made New Fairfield, Conn., their home for a few years before moving to Brewster, 51 years ago. He was owner and operator of TWK Service Station (Exxon) in Brewster for more than 40 years, retiring in 1997.

Mr Kenny's involvement within the Brewster community was vast. He coached the boys’ basketball team of St Lawrence O’Toole Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a two consecutive term president of the Brewster Lions Club, past member of the Brewster school board, a Brewster Schools girls’ varsity basketball coach, a member of the Brewster Elks Lodge #2101, and the Brewster Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Kenny was an avid golfer. He taught golf and had won the Westchester Golf Association husband and wife championship, and participated in the father/son tournament.

He held strong to his faith and family. He was a loving and gentle man to his family and a fierce friend to many who knew him and who will miss him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 26, at 10 am, at St Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, Tuesday, March 25, from 4 to 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie- NY 12601 and/or Disabled Veterans, 1634 Eye Street, Suite 750, Washington DC 20003.
