Longtime Sandy Hook Resident
Winifred I. (Travis) LeWare, 92, died March 17, at her home in Sandy Hook. She was born to Annie (Lines) and Frank Travis, April 16, 1918, and was a longtime resident of Newtown.
She leaves her three children, Marsha Langhill and husband, Bentley LeWare and wife, and David LeWare and wife; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Karen Travis of Utah. Her husband, Charles R. LeWare, predeceased her in 1992. She was predeceased by her sister, Francis Peetz, and brother, Robert Travis.
Mrs LeWare graduated from South Hadley Falls High School in Massachusetts, and Booth and Baylis Business School in Bridgeport. She retired in 1968 from Fairfield Hills Hospital after 30 years service.
She was a member of Newtown Congregational Church, and volunteered many years at the churchâs Cornerstone Store. Mrs LeWare was also a member of the churchâs Circle 3 and Womenâs Fellowship.
The family wishes to thank Home Instead, particularly Selena and Andrea, who so freely gave their hearts and souls to the loving care of Mrs LeWare. They also wish to thank Hospice Care of Western Connecticut who provided her with extraordinary comfort in her final days. Last, but certainly not least, special recognition to all the ladies and gentlemen of Newtown Ambulance Association and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company who responded rapidly and professionally on several occasions.
Burial will be private, and Mrs LeWare will be interred next to her beloved husband, Charles.
