Police are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred at a residence on Sugarloaf Road in Sandy Hook on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 22, as a woman was returning to her home there.
At about 2:15 pm, when the unidentified woman arrived at her residence, she found a white minivan bearing New Jersey marker plates parked in her driveway, Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner said.
There was one man within the minivan and another man on her front lawn, police said. The man on the lawn then got into the minivan and both men then drove off, heading toward Sherman Street and Berkshire Road (Route 34), the sergeant said.
When the woman then entered her home, she spotted two more men at the rear door of her residence, Sgt Wisentaner said.
Those men then ran off toward Sherman Street when they saw the woman, the sergeant added.
No forcible entry was made into the house and nothing was reported to be damaged or missing from the premises, he said. There were no injuries stemming from the incident.
After police received a report of what had occurred, several officers were dispatched to the area and they searched for the men, but did not locate them, Sgt Wisentaner said.
The sergeant theorized that the woman may have encountered an attempted burglary which was on the verge of occurring, or may have found some workers who had inadvertently gone to the wrong address to do some work.
The woman told police that the four people she had encountered appeared to middle-aged men of Middle Eastern origin who were wearing jeans and sweatshirts, the sergeant said.
Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
