Win Big, Planning Ahead
In advance of the annual exhibition of works by members of Flagpole Photographers next month, the club was distinguished this month with first place in the color print division of New England Camera Club Councilâs annual winter competition.
The first place won by the club in the NECCC competition is a significant achievement by the club, which competed with 80 other clubs in the six New England states. This marked the first time the local photographers have scored so highly in the color division.
The club immediately presented the blue ribbon to its longest serving member, Jim Talarino, who was a founding member of Flagpole Photographers in the mid 1980s and has served as president and in many other capacities throughout the years.
It is expected that over 100 photographs will be on display at the annual exhibit, returning to the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library April 2-27. An opening reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, at 3:30 pm.
Awards in several categories will be chosen by two well known Fairfield County photographers, including honors for color and black and white prints, Best in Show, Dave Krieger Nature Award, the Jeanette Talarino Flower Award, Bruce Allen Open Print in all categories, and Peopleâs Choice, in which visitors will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite image. The latter voting will be concluded on Sunday, April 3.
Rhonda Cullens and Win Brickmeier are serving as chairpersons for the exhibit.
Past winning photographs of The Dave Krieger Nature Awards are displayed on the top floor of the library.
The next regular meeting of Flagpole Photographers will be on April 21, also at the library.
