Woman’s Club Holds Arts & Crafts Show

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, held its Arts & Crafts Show on March 27 at the Stony Hill Inn in Bethel. Fifty-five items were entered by member crafters, 20 of which were in the photography category. Sixteen of the photos were taken in Tibet by longtime members and past president, Coke Cramer, during her journey there last fall. Several of her remarkable photos, including “Selling Apples at Jokhang Temple,” “High View of Patala Palace,” and “Outdoor Herb Market” won first place and will be entered in the GFWC District 1 Arts & Crafts Contest.

Other blue ribbon winners were: Betty Warner and Mary Elander, heritage crafts; Flo Caron, theorem painting; Lorraine Vander Wende and Marianne Scanlon, flowers; Marilyn Alexander and Peg Forbell, crochet; Peg Forbell, Marilyn Alexander, Carol Mattegat, and Marion Thompson, knitting; Ruth Campbell and Peg Forbell, needlecraft; Peg Forbel, Ruth Campbell, and Betty Doty, sewing; Marion Thompson and Marilyn Alexander, stationery; Evelyn Spera, oil painting; Ellen Baff, watercolors; Rita Lapati, pastels; Betty Doty, drawing; Coke Cramer and Pat Denlinger, photography.

Best of Show Award was given to Rita Lapati for her pastel painting entitled “Lambs at Rest.”

Judges for the contest were Lori Ter Haar, arts; Trudy Kluge, knitting; Lani Lee, sewing; and Frank Gardner, photography.
