Spring Bird Walks At Kellogg Center

DERBY — The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s Kellogg Environmental Center is offering bird walks every first and third Saturday of the month for new and experienced birders and families.

Kellogg Environmental Center volunteer Jay Connolly will conduct the morning walks in search of early spring migrants arriving at the Kellogg estate and Osbornedale State Park.

To participate in Osbornedale programs, meet at Picketts Pond on Saturday, April 16, at 8 am; and/or May 7 and June 18 at 7:30 am. For Kellogg Environmental Center walks, meet at the center’s parking lot on Hawthorne Avenue on Saturday, April 2, at 8 am; and for May 21 and June 4 at 7:30 am.

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and field guides, although a limited number of each will be available. Osbornedale State Park/Kellogg Estate Bird Checklists will be provided free to participants.

These programs are free and registration is not required.

Kellogg Environmental Center is adjacent to Osbornedale State Park in Derby. Call 734-2513 between 9 am and 4:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday for directions. The Kellogg Environmental Center, operated by DEP’s Office of Communications and Education, is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue, immediately off Route 34; watch for signs.
