Newtown’s Annual Mad Dash For The Eggs

It was cold, and there was still a little snow in the air, but that didn’t keep crowds of kids and their parents from converging on Treadwell Park last Saturday, March 19, for the annual Parks and Recreation Department Easter Eggstravaganza.

The hunters were divided into three different age groups and sent in different directions in search of their quarry — plastic eggs with candy inside. For each age group there was one special egg entitling its finder to a large basket of goodies.

In addition to the hunt, children were invited to participate in the Jelly Bean Guessing Contest, venturing their best guess on how many beans were in a jar.

Girl Scout Troop 134 was responsible for hiding the eggs as well as organizing the event for the Parks and Recreation Department.
