Give A Gift That Comes With A Show!

Trying to think of a birthday present to give a family member or friend?

Cliff and Marie Ferris Walker have a suggestion.

The Walkers, both Newtown natives, made a contribution to the Tercentennial Edmond Town Hall Theater Seats program this week as a birthday gift to each other.

The Newtown Lions Club began the project last year with the goal of replacing all the deteriorating seats on the lower level of the theater.

“I feel very strongly about the town hall and the things that go on there,” Mrs Walker said. “At 4 or 5 years old I took dancing lessons there. I also played basketball in the gym. My husband and I both graduated from the town hall, which was the custom those days, and later our wedding reception was in the Alexandria Room.

“There is a lot of history in our family involved in that good old building,” she said.

Cliff Walker said that he also took dancing lessons in the town hall when he was a youth.

“We learned a little bit of everything that was popular at the time,” he recalled.

The Walkers have joined an increasing number of residents, some of whom have lived here all their lives and others who are relative newcomers, who have contributed to the Edmond Town Hall Seats project.

All contributions large and small are welcome. But individuals, organizations, neighborhoods, and businesses also can buy entire seats, which cost $300 each. If $300 is given, a memorial plaque with an individual inscription will be placed on the back of the seat.

Checks should be made out to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers. In the memo section, write “Town Hall Seats.” Donations are tax deductible. Mail checks to the Newtown Lions Club, attn: G. Williams, PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470.

Anyone who has questions can call Gordon Williams at 426-6443.
