Domestic Violence Hot Line Training
Domestic Violence Hot Line Training
DANBURY â The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury is now screening volunteers for its spring Domestic Violence â Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training.
The 40-hour training dates are: March 29, 31, April 4, 9, 13, 26, May 2, 5, 11, and 17. Evening classes are 5:30 to 9 pm, while Saturday sessions run from 9 am to 2:30 pm. Bilingual and male candidates are encouraged to apply. This training will qualify the volunteer to do crisis intervention counseling, which is a hotline position that can be done on-site during business hours, or, after business hours, from home. It is also a prerequisite for specialized positions such as peer counseling, court advocacy, group facilitation, and shelter advocacy.
Day and evening child care and other noncounseling positions such as fundraising, clerical support, and writing are also available and required only a five-hour orientation.
During the 2003-04 fiscal year, 54 volunteers provided the equivalent of three full-time staff positions of support to 19,648 adults and children served in the greater Danbury, including 1,824 in Newtown. These statistics include community education contacts.
