The ability to work with rows and columns in the computer program Microsoft Excel of information is a priceless tool for conquering the informational aspects of life with ease and accuracy. Learn to use the spreadsheet most used by businesses, students, and home-users. Using Microsoft Excel, learn to design and use spreadsheets, formulas, functions, number, date and text formatting, sorting, and many more features. Basic computer skills are required.Yoga 101 - A ten-class course on Mondays, starting March 26, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, $99. This session offers a variety of postures suitable for both beginner and experienced students. Bring yoga mat and towel. Yoga blocks are optional.Google Sites Website Design - A one-class course on Monday, March 26, 6:30 pm to 9 pm, $39. Google offers a template for designing a website. Learn how to create and publish a free tailored website. Students should have a Gmail account prior to class.Social Security Planning, Do You Know Which Strategy Is Best For You? - A one-class course on Tuesday, March 27, 6:30 pm to 8 pm, $29. This 90-minute presentation covers Social Security basics and reveals strategies for maximizing benefits. The class will discuss minimizing taxes on Social Security benefits and coordination of Social Security benefit with other sources of retirement income. Questions about personal Social Security benefits will be welcome.What's Happening In Newtown For Boomers, Seniors, And Family Members - A free class being offered once a month for three sessions. The second session is Wednesday, April 11, 5 pm to 6 pm. Wonder what's new and of interest in Newtown specifically for boomers, seniors, and their family members? Come to this free, one-hour class, sponsored by Newtown Continuing Education, to hear about Newtown's 2018 Livable Community Initiative, the New Senior Center planning, and other topics of interest to the local senior community. People interested in the class should register at least three to four days in advance.Beginning Filmmaking Using iMovie - A one-class course on Monday, April 2, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $39. Students with an iPhone or iPad can make a move right from their own device. Learn how to create an iMovie using pictures and original video. Students will need to purchase and download iMovie onto their device prior to class.Osteoporosis, It's Not Just About Taking Calcium - A one-class course on Tuesday, April 3, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $29. Discussions in this class will include how to prevent and manage the disease and the difference between osteoporosis and osteopenia, who is at risk for developing the disease, how a doctor measures bone density and how diet, supplements and exercise play a role in the disease.The Libraries Of Manhattan, Bus Trip - A day-trip that departs from Newtown High School at 9 am on April 7, $109. Participants will begin their day in New York City with an early lunch on their own at the Grand Central Terminal's food court - remember to look up at the beautiful ceiling. Spend the afternoon at the New York Public Library for a guided tour of the history and architecture of this landmark building flanked by the two lions - Patience and Fortitude. There are many beautiful spaces within but perhaps the most spectacular is the Rose Main Reading Room. After a yearlong renovation that spiffed up the enormous research room - which is about as long a two city blocks - its plaster rosettes, celestial mural, and ornate chandeliers are more glorious than ever. Next will be a self-guided visit of the Morgan Library which began as the private library of financial Pierpont Morgan, one of the preeminent collectors and cultural benefactors in the US. The complex consists of J.P. Morgan's exquisite library, refurbished in 2010, along with the splendid, marble-covered rotunda, a red-paneled study, and other glorious rooms. This trip included a Friendship Tours Tour director for the day to assist in maneuvering your way through New York City. This trip requires a moderate level of walking as the libraries and Grand Central are large buildings.New York City By Land And Sea, Bus Trip - A day-trip that departs from Newtown High School at 8 am on April 28, $109. The New York City by Land & Sea tour is an adventure that covers New York City by bus, foot, and boat. The day will begin by land on a riding tour of Manhattan. Highlights include notable New York City landmarks in midtown and lower Manhattan with plenty of opportunity to hop off and on the bus, so wear comfortable shoes. Midday, the bus will drop people at the pier at South Street Seaport. Lunch is "on your own," so people can pack something delicious to eat and bring it with them, or they can choose to dine on their own at one of the Pier 17's restaurants/cafes. Following lunch, attendees will board the Circle Line's Statue of Liberty Express, sailing up, down, and all around New York Harbor. While enjoying an hour-long, narrated cruise, the ship will pause up close to the majestic Lady Liberty. Views will include Ellis Island, Governors Island, and the expansive Brooklyn Bridge. This is a chance to see New York City up close and personal without the hassle of driving to the city and searching for parking, or spending the day on subways and in taxis. The price includes round trip transportation provided by Friendship Tours, admission to the Circle Line cruise and bus driver gratuity. Detailed itinerary will follow closer to excursion.
