Taylor picked up his first guitar at the age of 13, beginning a forty-year career that has encompassed performance, songwriting and teaching. Born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, Taylor is the fourth child in a very musical family that includes Alex, James, Kate and Hugh. He recorded his first record at 18 and has continued to create well-crafted, introspective and original songs that have earned him listeners worldwide.

Today he is also a full professor at Berklee College of Music, sharing his experiences and knowledge of professional touring with young artists, just beginning to hone their skills. His course, Stage Performance (I and II), is one of the most popular at the college, and it gives him the ideal forum in which to impart the lessons learned through his own career to a new generation of musicians. His book, Stage Performance, is drawn from those classes will be available this fall.

Newtown Bee Associate Editor John Voket spoke with Mr Taylor recently. That feature (“Livingston Taylor: Engaging Teacher, Troubadour Heading For Flagpole Radio Café”) can be found in the March 16, 2012 print edition of The Newtown Bee and online at NewtownBee.com.

Flagpole Radio Café, is an engaging show created by Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco and Barbara Gaines in conjunction with Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. Events include a different headliner each month along with music by Jim Allyn and The Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra, and radio style comedy sketches by The Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre.
