President Obama’s Actions

To the Editor:

As we enter spring, the season of hope, I am impressed by the leadership shown by President Obama. He is a thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent person who works to support freedom of conscience and self-determination for us as individuals and for our organizations. He recognizes that organizations are free to tell their members what they must believe while not seeking to impose those beliefs upon other members of our society who believe differently.

On a community level he works to improve our quality of life. For example, similar to the way we have public education, and police and fire protection, he has worked toward us having affordable, dependable health care.

In foreign affairs President Obama has shown his determination to protect Americans by eliminating the real threats that Osama Bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki posed to our country. At the present time he is under tremendous pressure to start a third war (with Iran) and a fourth war (with Syria) in the Middle East. He is refraining from adopting an immediate course of violence and destruction. Instead, in keeping communications open with those with whom we disagree, he patiently works to develop mutual trust while seeking to find solutions that lead to security and shared prosperity for all the peoples involved.

By maintaining hope, by supporting freedom, by caring for others, and by seeking peace, President Obama’s actions embody the major themes of the celebrations of Passover and Easter.
