Girl Scouts Collecting Prom Dresses
Girl Scouts Collecting Prom Dresses
Members of Newtown Girl Scout Troop 50843 are hoping to be able to provide prom dresses to Newtown High School senior prom attendees who could use a helping hand.
Troop members have been collecting gently used prom dresses as they work toward their Silver Award project, and the Newtown Middle School seventh grade Cadette troop will be gathering dresses through March 30.
Dresses are being accepted at Sabrina Style, 4 Washington Avenue, Sandy Hook, and the store will give a 10 percent discount to those who purchase a dress at the store. Dresses will also be accepted as well as at Queen Street Cleaners in the Big Y Plaza on Queen Street. Sabrina Style prefers the dresses to be dropped off on weekdays; check www.sabrinastyle.com for store hours.
Troop Leader Jennifer Johnson said her troop has already collected many dresses, some with tags still attached, in sizes ranging from 0 to 22.
Dress collection will culminate in a âPerfect Prom Newtownâ event on Saturday, March 31, at the Teen Center from 10 am to 2 pm. Girls are invited to choose a dress at that time, and enter a free raffle for prom-related services such as manicures, hair styling, and flowers.
