‘Atmospheres’ And Artist’s Talks At Koenig FrameWorks Gallery

The FrameWorks Gallery (Koenig FrameWorks) is pleased to announce its next art show, “Atmospheres,” featuring the works of diverse artists DeAnn L. Prosia and Joanne Conant. This show is the latest product of the gallery’s partnership with Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance (HVCA), a regional arts agency that provides services to creative resources in the Housatonic municipalities of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, New Milford, Ridgefield, Redding and Sherman. In conjunction with the HVCA partnership, The FrameWorks Gallery will be hosting periodic art shows with HVCA members as part of HVCA’s Accessible Art 2012.

“Atmospheres” will be on view at Koenig FrameWorks from Friday, March 23, until Saturday, April 28. An opening reception is scheduled for March 23 from 5 to 8 pm.

In addition, an Artist Talk with Ms Prosia will be offered on Saturday, March 31, at noon, and an Artist Talk with Ms Conant will be held Saturday, April 7, at 1 pm.

Born in Chicago, Ill., and educated at Northern Illinois University and the Art Institute of Chicago, DeAnn L. Prosia only works with lines, trying to create the feeling and texture of other methods, such as aquatint. She is very organized and detail oriented which is evident in her work by the tight-knit lines of her etchings.

Ms Prosia uses a sewing needle as her etching tool to get very fine lines. Etchings that are approximately two square inches can take up to 20 hours to create, while her largest works take over 200 hours of work. The artist inks and hand pulls her own prints.

Joanne Conant’s extensive career as an oil painter, enamellist and teacher began with a degree in Commercial Art from the Minneapolis Technical Institute, continued as an apprentice with enamellist Margaret Seeler, and as a student of oil painting under the tutelage of Ira Barkoff.  Her oil paintings range from the calm, almost surreal, depictions of natural landscapes followed by the intense drama of her seascapes.

“I paint to emulate, to seek the essence of the subject and the moment,” says Ms Conant. “I hope to capture those small moments and release them with paint and canvas, not so much to record but to construe the elements of the living earth: Clouds moving with the wind, waves in constant motion, the solidity of rock and the tranquility of trees and landscape.”

The FrameWorks Gallery (Koenig FrameWorks) is a picture framing and art galley located at 97 Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.

“We are ecstatic to feature the works of such talented, accomplished artists, DeAnn and Joanne. Their unique, opposite styles and skill set should make for an extremely interesting, diverse show,” said FrameWorks owner Casper Sabatino.
