After capturing the South-West Conference Championship and State Class L title the Newtown High School cheerleading team took things to another level. The Nighthawks went to Worcester State University in Massachusetts on March 22 and captured the win at the 17th Annual New England Interscholastic Spirit Championship.

Each state had as many as three teams from four divisions, plus a co-ed. Judges considered difficulty and technique for pyramids, partner stunts, tumbling, jumps, motion, and dance. Various stunts included inversions, tosses, extensions, and dismounts, with more challenging moves garnering bigger point totals.

The Hawks are coached by Susan Bridges and Assistant Coaches are Elie Mouchantat and Caitlin Horvath.

Nighthawk cheer team members are Cydney Turoczi, Ella Macey, Ashley Jackson, Isabella Walder, Leticia DeOliveira, Mel Lordeiro, Abi Gonzalez, Maddie Moore, Anna Verashagin, Ava Keil, Mikaela Sisenstein, Kaelyn Rosvally, Charlotte Oltran, Reese Roland, Macie Phillips, and Lily Willinger.
