Two Charges

Police report they saw motorist Michael Paradise, 32, of Redding, whose driver's license they knew was under suspension, drive away from Wheels Citgo gas station about 4:36 pm on March 20 and then travel westward on Church Hill Road.

Police stopped Paradise to investigate, after which they charged Paradise with driving with a suspended license and also charged him on a warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court. After arrest processing, police released Paradise on $5,000 bail for upcoming court appearances.

Double Turn

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the signalized four-way intersection of Church Hill Road, The Boulevard, and the driveway of The Village at Lexington Gardens at about 4:49 pm on March 20.

Motorist Hunter Brunetti, 19, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck, was stopped in the intersection on eastbound Church Hill Road in the left-turn-only lane, as motorist Ellen Sutherland, 69, of Southbury, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla sedan, was stopped on eastbound Church Hill Road in the straight ahead/right-turn lane, police said.

When the traffic signal turned green, both drivers then attempted to make a left turn to enter northbound Boulevard, resulting in the Toyota striking the Ford. There were no injuries. Police issued Sutherland an infraction for failure to observe roadway signs and markings. Brunetti received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Collision At Curve

At about 7:26 pm on March 18, motorist Patrick O'Kane, 39, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck northward near 189 Brushy Hill Road, entered the opposite travel lane and struck motorist Charles Kelly, 55 of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Honda Civic southward, police said. The accident occurred at a curve in the road.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned O'Kane for failure to maintain the proper lane and for traveling too fast for conditions.

Main Street

At about 10:49 am on March 17, motorist Richard Charette, 70, of Windham, Maine, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Outback, was backing out of a perpendicular parking space in front of the Newtown General Store at 43 Main Street, as motorist John Grimardi, 52, of Newtown was driving 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-300 sedan on Main Street, police said.

The Subaru hit the Mercedes. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Taunton Collision

At about 3:41 pm on March 17, motorist Fern Kazlow, 68, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., who was driving a 2015 Acura MDX SUV on Taunton Lane, then attempted to enter Taunton Hill Road, but in making that maneuver, the Acura struck a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, which was being driven on Taunton Hill Road by motorist Alfred Tomaj, 41, of Newtown, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Kazlow a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI Arrest

Police said they received a report at about 1:47 pm on March 16, concerning a man who was possibly intoxicated while in a commercial parking lot on South Main Street. Police said they also received a description of the vehicle that the man had driven away from the lot.

Police report that using that evidence, they then located the vehicle in question at a residence about 1.2 miles from the parking lot. After investigating, they arrested Robert Krosky, 70, of Newtown, on a charge of driving under the influence. After processing, police released Krosky on $250 bail for a March 27 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police said they spotted motorist Eric Carmichael, 42, of Monroe, driving a vehicle across the road's center line twice on South Main Street about 11:30 pm on March 16, so they stopped him to investigate near Sand Hill Plaza.

Police charged Carmichael with driving under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, failure to drive to the right, and driving without a license. After processing, Carmichael was released on $500 bail for an April 4 court appearance.

Jeep Vs Jeep

Police report a collision involving two Jeep SUVs on Currituck Road at the stop sign where that street intersects with Main Street at about 7:34 am on March 15.

Motorist Conor McManus, 27, of Newtown, who was driving a Grand Cherokee, struck the rear end of a Grand Cherokee driven by Rose Fogelman, 55, of Newtown. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned McManus for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Lexus Off Road

Police report that at about 6:02 pm on March 15, motorist Michael Giarratano, 72, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Lexus GS-350 sedan northward on South Main Street, swerved to the left to avoid a southbound vehicle that had nearly entered the northbound lane.

Police said the Lexus then drove off the road and struck several boulders near the Botsford Drive-In, after which the auto struck and broke a guy wire. The Lexus kept traveling and drove across lawn before coming to rest on Cold Spring Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Giarratano an infraction for making a restricted turn

Drug Arrest

Police said they received a call about 8:35 pm on March 15, reporting that an erratic motorist had driven across a lawn on Botsford Hill Road, north of its intersection with Little Brook Lane, and then drove away. Police responded to search for the vehicle and located it on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way.

Police said that an investigation turned up several illegal Oxycodone pills within the vehicle's passenger compartment. Consequently, police charged Michael Carlson 35, of Brewster, N.Y., with illegal possession of a controlled substance. Police released Carlson on a written promise to appear on March 29 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Warrant

Newtown police report that on March 15, motorist Luis Saquicela-Lalvay, 42, of Bethel was the subject of a motor vehicle stop by Danbury police.

Danbury police then learned that Newtown police held a warrant for his arrest, after which Saquicela-Lalvay was transported to Newtown. In Newtown, police charged him with driving under the influence and with traveling unreasonably fast in connection with a July 16, 2017, auto accident on Hattertown Road.

In that incident, Saquicela-Lalvay had been driving a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on Hattertown Road, near the Monroe town line, when the truck drove off the road's right shoulder and struck some guardcabling, after which it entered a ditch and then struck a large rock, according to police. After that crash, Saquicela-Lalvay was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police have said.

After arrest processing on March 15, police released Saquicela-Lalvay on $500 bail for a March 29 court appearance.

Three Vehicles

Police report that a three-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Pole Bridge Road about 12:12 pm on March 14.

The accident involved motorist Anton Kaminskiy, 19, of Monroe, who was driving a 2017 Honda HR-V SUV, motorist Evan Hildenbrand, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2004 Volvo S-60 sedan, and motorist Rosemary Zanfini, 87, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza. There were no injuries.

Kaminskiy received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Chinedum Ekenedilicmi Nwokeafor, 22, of New Haven, went to the police station on the morning of March 13, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.

The original case stems from Nwokeafor having been issued two motor vehicle violations by Newtown police on January 14. Nwokeafor has not pleaded to the two charges.

After processing the arrest, police released Nwokeafor on $500 bail for a March 27 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Garbage Truck

At about 9:28 am on March 13, motorist Thomas Daniels, 37, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Lexus RX-330 SUV northward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Echo Valley Road, struck a stopped 2012

Freightliner M2 garbage truck driven by Monserrate Camacho, 44, of Danbury, police said. At that time, the Freightliner truck was standing in the northbound lane while picking up some garbage cans, police said.

There were no injuries. Daniels was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Jeep Vs Mercedes

During snowy road conditions about 8:13 am on March 13, motorist Kerianne Nordland, 23, of West Islip, N.Y., was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty SUV northward on Hattertown Road, about 500 feet north of Abbotts Hill Road, when she rounded a corner and slid on some snow, colliding with a 1999 Mercedes-Benz 300-TD auto, which was parked off the right road shoulder, police said.

Nordland reported pain, but refused medical treatment from the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Police verbally warned Nordland for making a restricted turn.

Warrant

Police said they arrested Jennifer Renkert, 47, of Newtown, on a warrant on March 11, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court.

The charge stems from an initial incident on August 20, 2017, in which Renkert was issued an infraction ticket by the state Environmental Conservation Police for failure to comply with regulations on personal flotation devices. Renkert has pleaded not guilty to that charge.

After processing on March 11, police released Renkert on $75 bail for a March 27 court appearance.

Keys Found

Police report that a set of keys was found on March 11 on Hattertown Road near Meadowbrook Road. The set includes three keys for Dodge-brand vehicles. Police are holding the keys for safekeeping. The owner may claim them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Auto Accident

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Berkshire Road at its intersection with Pole Bridge Road about 5:02 pm on March 11.

In that incident, motorist Micaela Garrison, 21, of Oxford was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla sedan westward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Roger Gully, 67, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, police report. The Chevrolet then attempted to make a left turn to enter northbound Pole Bridge Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Gully for making a restricted left turn.

SUV Vs Pole

Police report that at about 3:37 am on March 10, they received a report that a motor vehicle accident had occurred on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Sherman Street.

Police said their investigation indicated that motorist Hailey Conrad, 19, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, when Conrad lost control of the Jeep and then drove off the right side of the roadway, striking a snowbank and then hitting a utility pole. The Jeep overturned and landed on its side across the roadway.

On arriving at the scene, police did not locate Conrad, resulting in a search by police and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters, who were called at 3:40 am. Conrad was found near Misty Vale Deli on Berkshire Road. Conrad received minor injuries in the crash and was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital.

The fallen utility pole and wires at Berkshire Road caused a road closure and detours while repairs were made. Police issued Conrad a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility and for making a restricted turn.

Taunton Lane DUI

Police said that at 1:48 am on March 10, they were dispatched to the area near 21 Taunton Lane on the report of a one-vehicle accident there.

After investigating the crash, they charged motorist Lucio Hernandez-Vazquez, 35, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Police said they released Hernandez-Vazquez on $100 bail for a March 22 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

From the area near Sand Hill Plaza at about 8:44 pm on March 10, police received a report of an erratic driver traveling northward on South Main Street. Police found the vehicle in question and stopped it to investigate on Sugar Street.

Police charged motorist Paul Payne, 75, of Newtown with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Police released Payne on $50 bail for a March 27 court appearance.

Interstate DUI

State police report they received numerous calls about an erratic driver at about 9:52 pm on March 10. State police said they found and stopped the vehicle in question to investigate on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10.

State police charged motorist George Roscoe, 38, of Danbury, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. After processing, Roscoe was released on $500 nonsurety bail for a March 29 court appearance.

Botsford Crash

About 9:14 am, on March 9, on westbound High Bridge Road, near Botsford Hill Road, motorist Lisa Zucaro, 53, of Monroe, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat sedan, struck the rear end of a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban SUV driven by Elaina Wieser, 47, of Monroe, police report. There were no injuries. Zucaro received a written warning for following too closely.

DUI On I-84

At about 5 pm on March 9, on westbound Interstate 84, state police said they spotted a swerving motorist whom they stopped and then investigated.

State police charged motorist Luis Galarza, 43, of Danbury, with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to use a seatbelt. Galaraza was released on $500 nonsurety bail for an April 3 court appearance.

Snowy Roadway

While traveling southward on a snowy Farrell Road, at 9:17 am, March 8, near its intersection with Old Hawleyville Road, motorist Antonio Fernandes, 55, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue SUV, failed to negotiate a curve on the rood, drove across the street, and struck a tree, police said. There were no injuries.

Police took no enforcement.

Shady Rest

A two-vehicle accident occurred in the Shady Rest neighborhood in Sandy Hook about 3:20 pm on March 8, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Eugene McIntyre, 59, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was exiting a driveway on Shady Rest Boulevard, as motorist Rie Nogawa, 26, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2003 Honda CR-V SUV southward on Shady Rest Boulevard, police said. The Ford then struck the Honda. There were no injuries.

Police took no enforcement.

Narrow Bridge

Police report that motorist Richard Oladovich, 73, of Bethel, was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan minivan in snowy conditions about 1:25 pm on March 7 when the vehicle slid off the roadway as it approached a narrow bridge on Meadowbrook Road, near Lazybrook Road.

The Dodge traveled down an embankment and its front end came to rest in a brook. There were no injuries.

Police verbally warned Oladovich for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hawleyville Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident in Hawleyville during snowy conditions about 1:39 pm on March 7.

Motorist Isaac Apauh, 60, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2006 Nissan Murano SUV eastward on Old Hawleyville Road, made a right turn and entered southbound Hawleyville Road, as motorist Raymond Garnsey, 71, of Southbury was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox SUV southward there, police said. The two vehicles collided.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Apauh for failure to obey a stop sign.

Slick Conditions

Motorist Hossam Elbadry, 45, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Toyota 4-Runner SUV eastward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road, about 2:04 pm on March 7, spun around on the snowy pavement and then struck some curbing, large rocks, and a curbside mailbox, according to police. There were no injuries.

It is unclear if police took enforcement action.

Snowstorm

During snowy conditions about 3:03 pm on March 7, motorist Daniel Anastasia, 30, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road, near Zoar Road, lost control of the truck on a curve and traveled off the right road shoulder, striking a tree, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Anastasia to Danbury Hospital. Police issued Anastasia an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Jeep Collision

Motorist Taryn Smith, 26, of Southbury, was driving a 2001 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on Interstate 84 in the left lane of two lanes about 3 pm on March 7, when Smith started to change lanes, but went into a spin, traveled off the right road shoulder and then hit a road sign, state police said. There were no injuries.

Smith received an infraction for failure to maintain the lane.

Snowplow Vs Wrecker

At about 4 pm on March 7 on eastbound Interstate 84, Gregorio Garcia, 29, of Danbury, who was driving a 2017 Hino flatbed wrecker, stopped in the right travel lane at a one-vehicle accident, state police said.

David Cristaldo, 48, of Waterbury, who was driving a state 2005 International truck with a snowplow attached, then struck the left rear corner of the flatbed wrecker with the right corner of the plow. There were no injuries.

State police said they verbally warned Cristaldo for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Pickup Vs SUV

Motorist Donnie Jo St Louis, 49, of Newtown, who was driving a 2017 Dodge Durango SUV southward on South Main Street, near Park Lane, about 8:34 am on March 5, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Brandon Cosacchi, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Cosacchi received an infraction for following too closely.

Motor Vehicle Stop

Police report that at about 9:49 pm on March 5, they stopped a motorist on Pole Bridge Road, near Berkshire Road, whom they believed was driving with an expired vehicle registration.

After investigating, they charged motorist Ryan St George, 25, of Sandy Hook with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released St George for a March 20 court appearance.

Theft From Vehicle

Police report that at about 12:30 am on March 4, two unknown males entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked in a residential driveway on Pocono Road and stole unspecified valuables from within. Pocono Road links Mt Pleasant Road to Old Hawleyville Road.

Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurring on northbound South Main Street near Ricky's Shopping Center, at about 7:40 am on March 1.

Motorist Janine Williams, 49, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2005 Acura TL sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire sports car driven by Glenn Hardwick, 59, of Tahlequah, Okla., stopped behind the Acura, police said. Motorist Erik Scarpati, 34, of Stratford, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, then struck the rear end of the Chrysler, pushing the Chrysler into the rear end of the Acura, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Williams to Danbury Hospital for treatment of pain. Scarpati received an infraction for following too closely and Hardwick received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

A two-vehicle accident near 103 South Main Street (Route 25) closed a section of that road to through-traffic for about an hour on the afternoon of Thursday, March 15, as emergency crews worked at the scene following the collision. The incident caused extended travel delays in the area as motorists took detours. Police report that motorist Naranjo Cajamarca, 48, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon sedan northward on South Main Street, as motorist Christopher Capozziello, 78, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 Ford Excursion SUV, was attempting to exit a commercial driveway at 103 South Main Street to make a left turn and head southward. The Dodge attempted to avoid a collision, but struck the Ford, which rolled onto its side. Capozziello received a minor injury and declined ambulance transport. Hook & Ladder and Botsford volunteer firefighters, plus Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded. Police said they issued Capozziello an infraction for failure to grant the right of way from a private driveway. Police added that they gave Cajamarca an infraction for driving without a license.
