Tea And Poetry At Women’s Center

DANBURY — The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury will celebrate Women’s History Month with Tea and Poetry on Sunday afternoon, March 30. Three respected Connecticut poets — Lynn Tudor Deming, Rebecca Dobson, and Doris Henderson — will read from their work.

Ms Deming, a clinical psychologist, has been the recipient of several awards for her poetry. Her work “Heady Rubbish” was selected by former US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky to receive the 2005 Philbrick Poetry Prize.

Ms Dobson, a former actress and co-founder of the American Kaleidoscope Theatre who now teaches speech and acting in New Milford, writes poetry on themes particular to women’s lives and on nature.

And Ms Henderson, a longtime friend of the Women’s Center and facilitator of a writing workshop at Danbury Library, has been published in numerous journals and anthologies. Her poem “Distances” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

The event, from 2 to 3:30 pm, is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Women’s Center community room, 7 West Street. The poetry reading itself will run for approximately one hour, beginning at 2:30. Tea and light refreshments will be served.
