Erin Keefe To Join Miami String Quartet For Newtown Performance
The Miami String Quartet will perform the final concert of the season of events sponsored by Newtown Friends of Music on Sunday, April 6, at Edmond Town Hall. The concert will represent the finale of the 30th anniversary season of NFoM concerts, âexquisite music â superbly performed.â
Miami String Quartet First Violinist Ivan Chan sustained an injury to his right arm recently, however, so Erin Keefe, an accomplished and prize winning graduate of Juilliard, has been invited to join the quartet to complete its already-booked engagements, including the April date in Newtown.
Violinist Cathy Meng Robinson and cellist Keith Robinson, both founding members of the Miami String Quartet, together with violist Yu Jin, are the remaining members of the quartet.
The New York Times praised the Miami String Quartet for âits rich, precisely balanced sound, broad coloristic palate, real unity of interpretive purpose and seemingly unflagging energy,â thus establishing its place among the most respected quartets in America. All members are graduates of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and have appeared at Lincoln Centerâs Alice Tully Hall, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, St Paul, and Indianapolis, as well as their own concert series in Palm Beach, Florida. International highlight include appearances in Paris, Bern, Cologne, Lausanne, Istanbul and Montreal. The Miami String Quartet is also in great demand at many of the countryâs great festivals, including Mostly Mozart, Ravinia, La Jolla, Pensacola, etc.
The program for April 6 concert includes Mozartâs String Quartet in D minor, K.421; Alberto Ginasteraâs String Quartet No.1, Opus 20; and Debussyâs String Quartet in G Minor by Claude Debussy, Opus 10. A short, informal reception to meet the artists will follow the concert.
