Cat Owner Happy She Adopted
 Cat Owner Happy She Adopted
By Abbie Branchflower
My two cats, Roxy and Chloe, began life as part of a litter of six of a homeless mother cat called Lilly. Luckily for Lilly and her kittens, they were taken in by The Animal Center of Newtown, which runs an adoption program for homeless kittens in our community through a volunteer foster network. Unlike some unfortunate cats, Roxy and Chloe never had to live in cages but were instead placed with foster homes where they got the best possible start to life they could, given their situation.Â
When I came to choose my kitten (or kittens as fate would have it) from the litter of six, the young cats had already been socialized and been cared for. They had never been treated as just one of a number. Both Roxy and Chloe are now beautiful two-year-olds and despite being troublesome at times (chewed up homework anyone?) are adored by my entire family. I absolutely love âmy girls.â Roxy even follows me around like a puppy and sleeps on my bed. If she is shut out of a room and hears me talking she will meow until I let her inside. Chloe is a little bit more aloof but has her affectionate moments, although she prefers to play the âall mighty hunterâ and will not rest until she has rid the entire house of any bugs that may be inside. Both cats love to play and although their favorite toys are generally not ones intended for cats, my family does not begrudge them their stolen artifacts as long as they are safe for kitten play. The girls also adore my dog, Holly, and it is so sweet to see all three animals asleep on the âdogâ bed, the kittens taking up the most room!
I am so thankful that I was able to adopt both of them. They are such a huge part of my life and I absolutely love them to bits. Thank you so much to the Animal Center for providing them such a good start to life. Keep up the good work and I urge anyone thinking about adopting a cat to seriously consider it. They bring you so much joy and happiness and always know how to lighten the mood or provide comfort when you need it.Â
Thanks again to The Animal Center!
