The Newtown Tennis Association will present its 28th annual Newtown Open Tennis Tournament this spring. There will be 11 different events and entries close on Friday, April 4, so get those registrations forms in.
Events will be womenâs and menâs singles, womenâs and menâs 40 singles, womenâs and menâs doubles, womenâs and menâs 40 doubles, menâs 55 doubles, and mixed doubles. Cost is $20 per player per event or $30 per player for two events (players are limited to two events).
On your registration form, remember to include payment as well as name, address and a phone number that will appear on the draw sheet. One can also list a USTA ranking for each player and give any tournament history, collegiate play, or other.
Semi-finals and finals will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, at Dickinson Park. If there is inclement weather, the tournament may be re-scheduled or moved indoor. Draw sheets will be mailed in early April and players will be required to set up their own early matches on hard courts within the dates shown. All players must report their scores to the coordinator of the event played. Competition is the best of three sets.
Defaulting because of other commitments (excluding emergencies) is poor sportsmanship and inconsiderate. NTA policy dictates that players who default without notification and sufficient cause may not be permitted to enter future NTA tournaments.
Each player is required to bring a can of tennis balls to each match. The winner takes the unopened can of balls and the loser takes the opened can.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the NTA web site at www.NTAweb.com. For further information, contact NTA president Hugh Lavery at 426-3945.
NOTE: An NTA tennis party is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 8 pm to 12 midnight, at the Trumbull Tennis Club. Call Hugh Lavery at 426-3945 for further information.
