In the loss to New Castle, Newtown was outmatched. Connor Collier and Kurt Nacewicz combined for 17 points to lead the offense while John Grimaldi and Dan Quinn combined for 11 points.
In the loss to Ridgefield, the locals again came out flat, but battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit to pull within three points in the closing minutes. Connor Collier and Cole Depuy combined for 21 points while Dan Quinn and John Grimaldi chipped in seven points apiece. Kurt Nacewicz, Andrew Meisel, and Keith McGrath played well.
Meanwhile, the sixth-grade girlsâ travel team defeated Bethel, 40-16, to finish third at the Monroe Tournament. Mary Bloshuk had nine points, six rebounds and three steals for the locals, who concluded the 2002-03 season at 11-6.
Kaila Harrington had seven points and six rebounds while Cate Britton chipped in with five points. Adelle Ceretta and Jordyn Good combined for nine points, 10 steals and 12 rebounds to anchor the defensive effort.
