The Anti-War Crowd
The Anti-War Crowd
To the Editor:
Once again the anti-war, or should I say anti-Bush crowd (as in the recent Gordon Williams letter) are accusing our administration of acting like a bully. Let me explain something, Gordon. A bully starts a fight, beats you up, and then takes your lunch money. When Germany started a war, we beat them up, but itâs still an independent nation, and we spent lots of our money to restore their country. Japan attacked us, so we beat them up, but theyâre still an independent country, and again we spent more money to rebuild their economy. Some bully we are! Someone else starts a fight, we beat him up, and then we give him our lunch money.
Letâs remember, Saddam invaded our friend Kuwait, so we beat him up, but ceased fire because he promised to disarm. That was 12 years ago and he hasnât done so yet! The upcoming action is just a resumption of the war he started. This is not an âimmoral first strikeâ as you claim.
I also see a letter from Brian Gibney, who wants the USA to give coordinates of the tunnel entrances where Saddam hides his banned weapons, to the UN inspectors. Sorry Brian, thatâs not how it works! The way the cease fire and the 17 resolutions work is: Saddam is obligated to give the inspectors those coordinates. Youâre darn right we wonât reveal our sources. If we have an informant in Saddamâs administration, weâd be foolish to release those coordinates. Our informant would be dead in minutes, putting an end of our information stream, and certainly put our military in greater jeopardy. Is that what you want?
As far as the British idea of leaving Saddam in power, Iâm glad America is insisting on a regime change. How smart would it have been to take Bonnie and Clydeâs guns away, and letting them go free?
The anti-war crowd is dead set against everything this President does, even though, when Bill Clinton did the very same things, they were totally silent. Do you remember missiles into Kosovo and Iraq without any UN resolutions? I didnât see a single demonstration back then! They believe everything Saddam says; yet demand proof of anything from our own government. This sort of double standard makes a body wonder whose side theyâre on.
Before I close, I want to personally thank Col RP Gottmeier for his most informative letter, telling us what he observed first hand in Iraq, as part of our military forces. His words have far more meaning than what we read in the left-slanted media of this country. Iâll say an extra prayer for your son, as I pray for the safe return of all of the men and women in our armed forces. My hatâs off to you, Sir!
