Motorcycle Safety Courses Available

At NVCC

WATERBURY –– Motorcycle safety courses for novice and experienced riders will begin this spring at Naugatuck Valley Community College.

The Connecticut Rider Education Program is a statewide program directed by the Department of Transportation. Its goal is to provide quality motorcycle training for new and experienced riders.

The basic rider course is suited for individuals who have little or no riding experience. A training motorcycle and helmet will be provided, if needed. The fee is $150. Participants completing the basic course may qualify for the state license and submit their course completion card to the Department of Motor Vehicles in lieu of a skills test.

The experienced rider course is designed to improve rider skills in braking, evasive maneuvers, and turning. Riders must have a motorcycle license and use their own bike for the course. The fee is $50, and an additional $10 for a passenger.

The program begins in April and runs through early November. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration dates and course dates will be posted in information packets that will be mailed to prospective students this month. To receive an information packet that includes the 2003 schedule, a registration form, and a map of the campus, call 203-575-8123 or 203-575-8029.
