MIDDLETOWN â A good season keeps getting better and better.
The Newtown High School swim team finished eighth (with 101 points) at the CIAC Class L state championship meet this week at Wesleyan University â an accomplishment to go along with its 6-4 dual meet record and third-place finish at the South-West Conference championship meet.
Diver CJ Maurer, second at the SWCs, finished fourth at the Class L meet with 328.20 points and qualified for the CIAC State Open. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Jacob (24.45 split), Tim Robinson (23.54 split), Eric Taylor (23.91 split) and Andrew Heller (23.57 split) also qualified for the CIAC State Open by earning a sixth-place finish at 1:35.47.

The 200 medley relay team of Paul Ashey, Jake Maher, Heller and Zack Moliver finished 11th at 1:52.28; Taylor was 14th in the 200 freestyle at 1:55.85; Steve Truitt was ninth in diving with 262.20 points; Heller was 13th in the 100 butterfly at 58.58; Robinson was 13th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.61; and the 400 freestyle relay team of Ashey, Jacob, Taylor and Robinson was eighth at 3:35.05.
The CIAC State Open will be held this weekend at Yale University in New Haven.
