Gertrude Wolcott

Gertrude Wolcott, 96, a resident of Ashlar of Newtown and formerly of Bronxville, N.Y., died March 7. Gertrude was born in Yonkers, N.Y., in 1906, the daughter of the late Mary and Will Schanck.

Most of her life was spent in New York. She moved to Maine in 1994 and to Connecticut in 1999. She was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

She was predeceased by William G. Heep, Jr, her first husband, and by Charles C. Wolcott, MD, both of Bronxville, N.Y. She is survived by three children, Mary Heep Van Riper of Roxbury, formerly of Newtown, Elizabeth H. Hufnagel of Bar Harbor, Me., and William H. Heep of New Rochelle, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven nieces; and one nephew.

Gertrude was an active sports enthusiast and competitor. She was an avid curler with the Westchester Wicks, a former Woman’s Club Champion at St Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., and a longtime member of the Women’s Westchester Fairfield Golf Association.

There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, April 5, at 10 am, at The Reformed Church of Bronxville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or The Alzheimer’s Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611-1676.

Arrangements are by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
