April Vacation Still In The Schedule
April Vacation Still In The Schedule
With the school districtâs fifth snow day last Thursday, Newtown students can breathe a slight sigh of relief that April vacation is still planned as scheduled for the week of April 14â18.
Although Mother Nature did not start dropping snow last Thursday until late afternoon, area schools along with Newtown felt it would be safer to keep students home then worry about snow hazardous roads later in the day. Winter has been full of weathermaking decisions for area superintendents. Newtown has had five snow days, four early dismissals, and five delays this winter alone. The bad new is that Newtown students and teachers will have to attend school later in June than the originally scheduled last day of June 16.
âAt this point, we still have a full April vacation planned,â Superintendent of Schools Evan Pitkoff said. âThe last day of school is currently scheduled for Monday, June 23.â
Students have to be in school a minimum of 900 hours of instruction. Dr Pitkoff explained that half days could be expected the last week students are in school in June as long as at least 900 hours are achieved. The Class of 2003 will find out sometime in April what day they will graduate.
