Angels In The Kitchen
Angels In The Kitchen
To the Editor:
They had been expecting to help cook a few trays of meat for St Patrickâs Meal of Grace. With the stainless steel preparation table covered with turkeys and more meat coming into the kitchen on carts, there was no sense of panic ââ no complaints, they just dove into the work like any other seasoned professional.
They turned on all of the convection ovens, supervised the volunteers, and helped prepare the food. In less than one hour, these two ladies loaded a record amount of meat (26 turkeys) into the ovens of the Newtown High School. And while the turkeys were cooking, several hundred pounds of cooked ham was being sliced, put into trays and then stored for the night. All of this work was done under the direct observation of the Newtown Health Department and the grade was a very impressive 100 percent.Â
They say everyone has a guardian angel, but on last Friday afternoon till late at night, we had two of them ââ Karen Dickinson and Virginia Hettenbach. They are such wonderful people and Newtown is indeed fortunate to have such a courteous and professional staff preparing the food for our students. They are truly two of Newtownâs High Schoolâs hidden treasures.
Sincerely,
Frank Middleton
