CVH Animal Sanctuary Announces Spring Programs
The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary has announced some of the programs it will be hosting with the return of warm weather. Registration is required for all programs, and can be done at cvhfoundation.org.
*“Introduction to Beekeeping” is a two-part class planned for Saturdays, April 10 and 24. Cost is $100 for both classes. The first will be done via Zoom, from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. The second session will be at the sanctuary, at the end of Old Farm Road, from 11 am until 1 pm.
Peter Ferreira, certified master beekeeper and co-founder of Ferreira Homestead & Apiary in Waterbury, will lead the classes, meant for anyone age 12 and up thinking about starting a backyard beehive, or just curious about what is involved with keeping bees.
Students will learn the time-honored tradition of keeping and caring for bees and the importance of improving the environment for honey bees, wild bees, and other pollinators.
Space is limited to 12 registrants per class, and classes are non-refundable.
Rain dates have been set for July 24 and October 23 if needed.
An eight-part “Backyard Beekeeping” series will also launch this spring. Cost for the full series of eight classes is $350, which includes the “Introduction to Beekeeping” sessions above.
Classes will continue on May 22, with “Introduction to Beekeeping, Part 3”; June 19, “Introduction to Beekeeping, Part 4”; July 17, “Hive Inspections and Open Topics/Q&A”; August 14, “Preparing For Fall”; September 11, “Preparing For Winter”; and “October 16, “Final Winter Preparations.”
Ferreira will also be leading the full series.
Individual classes will be offered for $50 per class, based on availability, starting April 12.
*Tai Chi At The Sanctuary will be offered Saturdays, April 24, May 15, and June 5. Cost is $25 per class.
Sessions run from 1:30 to 2:45 pm. The classes will be Yang-style Tai Chi, to be taught by Chris Schaefer of Steve DeMasco’s Shaolin Studios in Newtown.
