Board of Education Vice Chair Michelle Ku spoke as the Area 5 director for Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) to announce and present the Award of Excellence for Educational Communications for the Newtown Public Schools' district budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year, according to the district.

Ms Ku said she and school board member John Vouros attended a CABE meeting in the fall, when the award was officially announced. She also said the roughly 300 page budget is easy to go through and contains a lot of data for residents.

School district Director of Business Ron Bienkowski was presented with the award at the Board of Education's meeting on Tuesday, March 15.
