Newtown Continuing Education Courses Available

Newtown Continuing Education announced it has limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787 for further information or to express interest in a program.

Beginner Sewing — Beginner Sewing attendees will learn how to make new projects including pin cushions, iPad holders, bath mats, dish towels, and more. The class will also cover machine familiarity, threading, and tension. Materials are provided, with a materials fee of $25, which is payable to the instructor at the first class. Attendees are asked to bring their own sewing machine or rent one from the instructor, for a $40 fee. Some class project instruction videos will be available to students on YouTube. The class has a limit of eight students. Beginner Sewing will be offered in six classes on Wednesdays, starting April 9, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, for a fee of $109.

Layered Pastels — The Layered Pastels class is for all beginners to experienced pastellists. The technique of layering pastels will be taught. Students will learn how to lay down several layers of pastels that start with basic shapes and evolve with each layer to create a finished painting. Each layer will be sprayed with a fixative in a well-ventilated area. Students will need to bring as many pastels as possible, paper, Arches hot or cold press, Krylon Fixative Spray, painters/artist tape, wax paper or tissue paper, and something to transport work home. The course is limited to 12 students. It will be offered over six classes on Wednesdays starting April 2. from 6 pm to 9 pm. for a fee of $169.

Yoga Stretch — The Yoga Stretch course will offer relaxing evening of yoga classes. This yoga practice is designed to lengthen and stretch breath. Class attendees should wear sweatpants and bring a exercise/yoga mat. A yoga strap and yoga block are optional. The class will be offered over ten sessions on Wednesdays, starting April 2, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, for a $99 fee.

Reiki I, II, III — Reiki I instructs the student on Reiki and meditation. Reiki II connects the student to the greater energy of Reiki. During the course, the students are given three sacred symbols, each having a specific function. These symbols can then be used as a focus to enable the student to strengthen mental and emotional healing and to send absentee healing.

Reiki III is advanced Reiki treatment where the practitioner learns to use their Reiki to the fullest. Reiki III ensures the practitioner has knowledge of the human anatomy and the practitioner will learn to use a Reiki grid. Upon successful completion of the three-night course, attunements and a certificate will be provided. The course will be offered over three nights — Monday, April 21; Tuesday, April 22;, and Wednesday, April 23— from 6 pm to 9 for a $89 fee.

Life: Living Ignited, Fearless and Energized — This course offers attendees to learn about tools to discover true passions, and how to pinpoint what obstacles prevent the attendee from achieving success. The course description also promises steps to overcome the obstacles. The three-class course will be offered on Tuesdays, starting April 1, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, for $49.
