Spring Conditioning Seminar For Horses At Post
Spring Conditioning Seminar For Horses At Post
WATERBURYâThe season is at hand to buff up the tack, brush out the winter coat, and set to work restoring strength and endurance after a season of light work.
In the dark of winter, riders and drivers in the Northeast must either send their horses south to be kept fit, brave the elements, or modify their workouts to be easier or shorter. Time and money being what they are, most choose the last option.
On Friday, April 3 at 7:15 pm, Post Universityâs Quiz the Experts series will host a discussion about the challenges, principles, and practices of bringing a horse to optimum athletic fitness in the spring of the year.
The discussion panel will include Ann Guptill of East Haddam, Connecticut, Abby Bloxsom of Colebrook, Connecticut, and others.
Guptill is a professional dressage rider, trainer, and instructor with her home base of operation at Fox Ledge Farm. She competes a variety of breeds and types of horses in dressage. Her career highlights include placing fifth individually at the 1987 Pan American Games and helping secure the Team Silver Medal.
Bloxsom is a competitive trail ride judge who has judged single and multi-day rides and drives from Maine to New Jersey, for more than 20 years. Now assistant director of the Equine Department at Post, Bloxsom has worked as an instructor, farrier, thermographer and nutritional advisor, most of which she considers to be a spinoff of her distance riding experience.
The Quiz the Experts series is organized by the Post University Equine Resource Committee, to provide topical and up to date information on subjects related to the ownership, care, and training of horses and other equines.
Proceeds from the Quiz the Experts Lecture series benefit equine scholarships and the Equine Program at Post.
Lectures are held in the Traurig Library Board Room on Post Universityâs Waterbury campus. Admission is $10 at the door, and is free to Post students.
