Police Reports, March 2-17, 2015
Hattertown Center Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident about 1:21 am on March 16 on Hattertown Road in Hattertown Center.
Police said motorist Victor Bazikov, 51, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Cadillac Escalade SUV, parked in the northbound lane of Hattertown Road and then exited the vehicle, leaving its driver’s door open such that the door extended over the southbound travel lane.
Southbound motorist Andrew Coleman, 28, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2010 Acura TSX sedan, then struck the opened door on the Cadillac, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bazikov an infraction for improper parking.
Ladder On Highway
State police report that motorist David Bernardino, 28, of Bristol was driving a 2011 Honda Civic in rainy conditions on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 11, at about 8:07 pm on March 10, when the Honda struck a ladder that was lying on the roadway.
A witness had seen that ladder fall from a pickup truck, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement. State police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2200.
Rear-Ender
Police report a two-car accident near 65 Church Hill Road about 11:13 am on March 6.
Police said motorist Hanna Petiprin, 22, of 1 Elana Lane was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Passat sedan westward and then stopped, after which the Volkswagen was struck from behind by westbound motorist Donald Treadwell, 88, of 53 Elizabeth Circle, who was diving a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Treadwell a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Willow Brook Lane
At about 10 am on March 9, motorist Robert Toth, 48, of Danbury was driving a town-owned 2008 Ford F-550 flatbed truck northward on Willow Brook Lane, as motorist Michael Parrilla, 57, of 9 Willow Brook Lane was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon SUV southward there, police said.
As the vehicles passed one another, their left exterior rear-view mirrors made contact with each other, according to police. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. Willow Brook Lane is a residential dead-end street extending from Boggs Hill Road.
Hawleyville Intersection Collision
Police report that two SUVs collided at the intersection of Hawleyville Road, Currituck Road, and Obtuse Road at about 11:20 am on March 6.
The accident involved motorist Annette Barbour, 56, of 11 Schoolhouse Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and motorist Carmela Bednarik, 42, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Audi Q-7, police report.
Police said both drivers declined medical attention. Police said they found that Barbour was at fault in the accident.
Ford vs Toyota
At about 5:09 pm on March 2, motorist Joseph Perkins, 68, of 5 Bears Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Ford Escape SUV in a gas station parking lot at 151 South Main Street, struck a parked 2012 Toyota RAV-4 SUV driven by Sean O’Keefe, 57, of 56 Marlin Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
South Main Crash
Motorist Karen Weitz, 63, of 22 Poverty Hollow Road, who was driving a 2013 Audi-Q5 SUV northward near 71 South Main Street at about 12:08 pm on March 7, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Carol Haines, 52, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK-320 coupe, police said.
There were no injuries. Haines received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Icy Roadway
Police report that motorist Amanda Barbero, 22, of New Fairfield was driving a 2004 Hyundai Elantra sedan near the western intersection of Berkshire Road and Chestnut Hill Road at about 11:30 pm on March 15, when she encountered an area with black ice.
The auto then drove off the road, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Landlord-Tenant Issue
After learning that police held a warrant for him, Brian Hunter, 54, of 22 Marlin Road went to the police station at about 3 pm on March 16 and was charged with second-degree criminal trespassing and with criminal lockout, police said.
Police said the charges stem from an incident on January 6 in which Hunter allegedly locked out his tenant at a Forest Drive residence after having entered that residence. Forest Drive is in the Riverside section.
Following processing, police released Hunter on a written promise to appear on March 31 in Danbury Superior Court.
Sweetbriar Lane Incident
Police report that sometime between 10:30 pm on March 10, and 9 am on March 11, an unknown person entered an unlocked silver-colored 2006 Chrysler Pacifica SUV, which was parked at a property near the end of Sweetbriar Lane in Sandy Hook. Sweetbriar Lane is a residential dead-end street that extends from Jeremiah Road, near Jeremiah Road’s intersection with Bennetts Bridge Road.
Police said that the person found a Wilson-brand duffel bag on the vehicle’s back seat which contained Canon-brand camera equipment valued at about $3,400. Those items were stolen.

Sandy Hook Break-In
Police report that a homeowner who returned to her residence on Washington Avenue, near its intersection with Pearl Street, on the afternoon of March 11 reported to them that the house had been burglarized.
The break-in occurred sometime between 12:15 and 3:15 pm that day, police said.
The unknown burglar broke a glass panel on a rear door in trying to gain entry to the building, but could not, so kicked in the door to enter an enclosed porch. The porch’s contents were left in disarray, but no items were stolen, police said.
The burglar then unsuccessfully attempted to enter the house, police said.

Slippery Conditions
Police report that a 31-year-old woman was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup truck northward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Great Ring Road, at about 8:14 pm on March 17, when she encountered some black ice, after which the truck slid off the right road shoulder, rolled over, and came to rest in a wooded area.
Police identified the driver as Laura Rinaldi, whom they listed with addresses in Shelton and in Athens, Ohio.
Police said Rinaldi was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked after reporting pain.
Nissan vs Saturn
Police report a two-vehicle low-speed accident in a commercial parking area near 97 South Main Street at about 3:17 pm on March 7.
The collision involved motorist Christy Abraham, 19, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra sedan, and motorist Brittany James, 22, of Port St Lucie, Fla., who was driving a 2003 Saturn L-200 sedan, police said. There were no injuries.
