YRTA Youth Empowerment Conference Scheduled

Interfaith AIDS Ministry (IAM) announces the 15th Annual Youth Reacting To AIDS (YRTA): Youth Empowerment Conference, sponsored by Union Savings Bank, Thursday, April 8, from 8:30 am to 1pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury at 24 Clapboard Ridge Road.

The Youth Reacting to AIDS (YRTA) Youth Empowerment Conference is a statewide youth to youth conference with the purpose of sharing information about HIV/AIDS preventive programs in the Greater Danbury area. For the last 15 years, Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury, Inc has been the sponsoring agency for this statewide conference. Youth peer AIDS educators from across Connecticut attend this youth driven-organized conference. The conference provides a forum for ideas, networking, and information exchange among all youth in the state. YRTA is a learning tool that fosters leadership, public speaking, communication, networking, community service, and team working skills.

Attendees at the conference are primarily between 13 and 24 years of age. Newtown residents that are part of YRTA are Newtown High School seniors Tyler Davenport, Sam Dinnan, Sarah Ferris, Shannon Paproski, and Jacque Rosa.

The conference has a limited number of seats, so early registration is encouraged. For more information and registration, please contact Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury, Inc, 39 Rose Street, Danbury, at 203-748-4077; or YRTA coordinator Suzanne Davenport at 203-417-4694; or email iam_yrta@yahoo.com. Registration is $5 for youth (18 or younger) and $8 for adults. Breakfast and lunch is provided.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury is located at exit 5 off of I-84 west.
