Grandchildren's Grief Group Meets In April
Grandchildrenâs Grief Group Meets In April
SOUTHBURY â For many children, grandparents are an important fixture in their lives. When a grandparent dies, a child may struggle with understanding the loss as well as see the emotions their parents are feeling.
Brownstein Jewish Family Service is hosting a free Grandchildrenâs Grief Workshop, held as a four-part curriculum, which provides a child-friendly approach for children ages 5â12 on how to approach grief after loss of a grandparent. It takes place April 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 3 to 4:30 in the library at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North.
The leader of this workshop, Janet Loya, MS, has been working as a Healing Hearts support group facilitator at Regional Hospice in Danbury for five years. She has an MS in counseling from Western Connecticut State University.
Prior to working with Regional Hospice, Ms Loya spent 15 years as a social worker at Green Chimneys Childrenâs Services. She was also a preschool, elementary, and junior high school teacher and tutor.
Ms Loya has been leading a very successful program for grandchildren whose grandparent has died for the last few years at Healing Hearts.
Space is limited for this workshop. To register a child for this program, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish family service director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
