Struck Stone Wall
Newtown Police report Charles Pryor, 65, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Ford Econoline E450, was traveling westbound in a driveway on Arrowhead Lane at 5:42 pm February 20. The vehicle struck a stone wall, displacing a rock on the wall.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
This report is a correction of a previous report that ran in the March 8 issue.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Jaclyn Schultz, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 2:43 pm February 29. She was traveling behind a 2020 Mazda CX-5 operated by Cheri Bisson, 51, of Newtown, who was in turn behind a 2015 Porsche Macan operated by Michael Berry, 17, of Newtown. Berry stopped for traffic while approaching Walnut Tree Hill Road. Bisson stopped behind Berry, but Schultz was unable to stop in time, and her vehicle collided with Bisson’s. Bisson’s vehicle was pushed forward into Berry’s.
No injuries were reported. Schultz’s and Bisson’s vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.
Schultz was issued an infraction for following too close.
Volkswagen Hits Acura
Newtown Police report Daniel Shea, 81, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 4:34 pm February 29. Alison Lamm, 53, of Danbury, operating a 2016 Acura TLX, was stopped at the light at Church Hill Road and Edmond Road, ahead of Shea. The front of Shea’s vehicle struck the rear of Lamm’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Backed Into Vehicle
Newtown Police report Nicole Capener, 49, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Honda Pilot, was backing from a parking space in the Big Y Supermarket at 6 Queen Street at 3:30 pm March 2. A 2021 Honda CR-V, owned by Catherine Loudon, 58, of Sandy Hook, was parked and unoccupied in a parking space to the left of Capener’s vehicle. As Capener backed from her space, the left front area of her vehicle made contact with the right side of Loudon’s vehicle.
Capener had left the accident scene and returned after being contacted by Newtown Police.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Water Bottle Causes Collision
Newtown Police report Annette George, 47, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Ford Explorer, was traveling on South Main Street at 5:14 pm March 5. Lutfi Vinca, 48, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling ahead of George, and stopped at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road. George told police that her water bottle dropped beside her and she reached down to grab it, not realizing Vinca had stopped for the traffic signal.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
George was issued an infraction for following too close.
Struck Utility Pole
Newtown Police report Joseph McCarthy, 35 of Brookfield, operating a 2003 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on Obtuse Road at 9:50 pm March 6. McCarthy’s vehicle crossed the center double yellow line, ran off the roadway to the left, and struck a utility pole.
McCarthy suffered minor injuries but declined transport. The vehicle was towed.
McCarthy was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating with a suspended registration and failure to drive in the proper lane. They were given a court date of March 20 in Danbury Superior Court.
Rear-Ended On Botsford
Newtown Police report Denn Layese, 22, of Danbury, operating a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling westbound on Botsford Hill Road approaching Swamp Road at 8 am March 7. Ariane Brown, 38, of Southbury, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, was stopped in the westbound travel lane ahead of Layese, waiting to make a left turn onto Swamp Road. The front of Layese’s vehicle struck the rear of Brown’s vehicle, causing no visible damage.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Layese was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Three Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Kevin Dunn, 70, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Ford Ranger, was making a left turn from South Main Street at 4:54 pm March 7. Daniel Gonzalez-Segovia, 29, of Hempstead, N.Y., was traveling on South Main Street in the opposite direction. Dunn struck Segovia’s vehicle while crossing traffic, and Gonzalez-Segovia’s vehicle was pushed into a 2020 Nissan Rogue operated by Kathleen Jahn, 67, of Monroe, who was making a right turn out of 274 Main Street.
Dunn and Jahn were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Gonzalez-Segovia had minor scrapes from airbag deployment but declined transport. All three vehicles were towed.
Dunn was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.
Hit Car At Gas Pump
Newtown Police report Brad Wood, 21, of Pennsylvania, was backing from a parking spot in a lot on Hawleyville Road at 4:54 pm March 8. Tracy Mankowski, 47, of Nesconset, N.Y., was parked at a gas pump. Wood backed into Mankowski’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Hit Mailbox On Toddy Hill
Newtown Police report an unidentified vehicle was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 6:08 am March 11. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a mailbox on the southbound shoulder of the roadway.
A witness said the vehicle was a dark colored pick-up operated by a male driver. Scuff marks left on the mailbox suggest a dark blue vehicle. The vehicle then left the scene.

Hit Stone Wall On Toddy Hill
Newtown Police report Jerome West, 26, of Monroe, operating a 2005 Nissan Altima, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 6:24 am March 11. West ran off the roadway right and struck a stonewall off the northbound shoulder of the roadway.
No injuries were reported. West’s vehicle was towed.
West was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Second Stone Wall Hit On Toddy Hill
Newtown Police report Daniel Trzcinski, 59, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 6:40 am March 11. Trzcinski crossed the centerline and ran off the roadway left, striking a stone wall off the southbound shoulder.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Trzcinski was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Arrested On Warrant
Newtown Police report that Nathanael Vernet, 36, of Oxford turned himself in to the Newtown Police Department after learning there was an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued following an extensive investigation by Newtown Police, which began after a complaint filed in November 2023 about an incident that occurred at the Newtown Rehabilitation Center.
Vernet was charged with third-degree assault (victim elderly or other) and second-degree reckless endangerment.
He was released on a $5,000 bond with a court date of March 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
Hit Oncoming Car
Newtown Police report Vincent DeLorenzo, 19, of Waddell, Ariz., was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 6:30 am March 12. Harrison Griffith, 45, of Waterbury, operating a 2019 Ford F150, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road. The rear driver side of DeLorenzo’s vehicle entered the southbound lane and struck the front driver side of Griffith’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Griffith’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
DeLorenzo was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
