International and National Puppetry Day falls on the first full day of spring this year, March 21.

To celebrate, Sova Dance and Puppet Theater of CT will offer a frog puppet-making workshop at Sticks and Stones Farm, 197 Huntingtown Road, from 2 to 5 pm Saturday, March 21.

Having performed at puppetry, mask and children’s education festivals in Taiwan, Denmark, Turkey, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic, Adelka Polak — founder and artistic director of Sova Theater — recently moved to Newtown from Sherman. The performance theater is now based out of Sticks and Stones Farm, which is also home to Two Coyotes Wilderness Camp. The wilderness camp brought Ms Polak to the farm for the first time last summer to create and collaborate on “Wild Theater” camp, where the forest is the theater and the trees serve as the set.

This year’s Two Coyotes camp project will be even bigger, but in the meantime the public is invited to join Ms Polak in welcoming local frogs back to the ponds and wetlands with songs and fun.

“Frog Puppets Make Me Hoppy,” a family event, will take place in the farm’s Stone Barn. All ages are welcome to participate in the spring celebration.

Cost is $15 per person, and each participant will make a frog puppet that will surprise everyone into laughter. Plan to hop, move and dance with puppets.

Reservations are requested, and can be done by contacting Ms Polak at adelkapolak@me.com or 203-313-7285. She can also be reached for additional information about the puppet program.

Ms Polak has moved to Newtown, and will now base her dance and puppet theater company at Sticks & Stones Farm.
Adelka Polak, shown during a session of Two Coyotes Wilderness Camp last summer, invites children of all ages to join her for a “Frog Puppets Make Me Hoppy” program on the first day of  spring at Sticks & Stones Farm.
