To First Selectman Pat Llodra:

This unusually severe winter has truly tested our town’s responses and resources to the very limit. My compliments to the town officials and employees who worked tirelessly to be sure roads were clear and safe and that schools and other town buildings were accessible. After the big snow storms, my street could accommodate two cars passing safely side by side only because the highway department returned again and again to plow and widen the roadway. Thank you!

Now that much of the snow, ice, and water is gone, it’s clear that our roads have unprecedented damage and many will require expensive repairs. Although it’s late in the budget cycle, I urge you to consider using part of the “rainy-day” fund for what is really a “rainy-day” eventuality: fixing our storm-ravaged roads. Paying for repairs now will save us from much more costly reconstruction later on if our roads, overpasses, and bridges deteriorate.

Respectfully yours,

Marian Wood
