NHS Students Collect Pet Food For Social Services

When the Newtown High School Animal Concerns Club held a holiday bazaar at the school, members Charlie Pryor and Doug Pierce stood at a booth collecting money to purchase dog and cat food to donate to the Newtown Social Services food bank for those having difficulty covering the costs of feeding their pets.

By Wednesday, March 2, Charlie and Doug were ready to deliver the 15 packages each of dog and cat food to the food bank.

“I have pets, so I knew the idea of being separated from your pet can be really tragic,” said Charlie, standing with one elbow propped up on a stack of cat food.

After raising funds at the Animal Concerns Club bazaar, Charlie and Doug, who joined the cause after Charlie shared his idea, also raised money outside of My Place Restaurant on Queen Street.

“I definitely hope I can expand on this to increase the range and types of the food,” said Charlie, speaking of possible future work to collect more food for local animals.
