John R. Barago, Sr, 83, of Newtown, died March 12, at Brookfield Commons in Brookfield. He was the husband of the late Millie (Kocet) Barago. Mr Barago was born January 9, 1928, in Bridgeport, a son of Grace (Miller) and John Baraga.
He served in the US Coast Guard as an electrician during World War II, stationed on Attu Island, Alaska.
Mr Barago was employed by Carpenter Technology, formerly of Bridgeport, for 37 years before retiring at age 55. He was a resident of Newtown since the 1950s.
 He was a parishioner of St Maryâs Church in Bethel, where he would assist with the churchâs clothing bank. He enjoyed traveling, vacationing in New Hampshire, and snowmobiling.
A son, John R. Barago, Jr, of Newtown; three daughters, Terri Lynn Champagne of Newtown, Diane Meade of New Milford, and Carolyn Ippolito of Meredith, N.H., and nine grandchildren survive Mr Barago. His sister, Mary Jane Baraga, and his granddaughter, Mary Grace Barago, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 16. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery, in the spring.
