Police Reports | March 5-15, 2011
House Burglary
Police report a house burglary at a residence on the section of Brushy Hill Road lying between that street's intersections with Beaver Dam Road and Platts Hill Road.
Police received a report about 6 pm on March 14 that someone had broken into the house, by forcibly entering the residence through a sliding glass door. The burglar or burglars stole an undetermined amount of jewelry from the premises, according to police.
Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841. Detective Daniel McAnaspie is investigating.
DUI Incident
Police report that they stopped a vehicle on South Main Street, near Borough Lane, which was driven by Timothy Frawley, 54, of 52 Taunton Lake Road, at about 9:30 pm on March 8 to investigate.
Following the investigation, police charged Frawley with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and failure to drive to the right.
Following processing, police released Frawley on $100 bail for a March 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Slippery Road
Ryan Slaiby, 25, an off-duty state trooper, was driving a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria state police car eastward on Berkshire Road, near Chestnut Hill Road, about 8:19 pm March 7, when the auto traveled over some icy pavement and then struck some guardrailing, town police report.
Slaiby was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Sugar Street
While traveling eastward on Sugar Street about 12:45 pm March 5, motorist Ellin Anderson, 80, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Mercury Sable sedan, attempted to pass eastbound motorist Kylee Abeling-Gioiele, 38, of 1 North Branch Road, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Rogue SUV, police said.
The Mercury attempted to pass the Nissan in order to enter the left-turn lane at Sugar Streetâs intersection with Main Street, police said. But in attempting that maneuver, the Mercury struck the Nissan, police said.
A passenger in the Nissan, Jeffrey Gioiele, 9, of 1 North Branch Road, received a possible back injury, police said. Anderson received an infraction for improper passing, according to police.
Vandalism
Police are investigating some vandalism that occurred at the town-owned Fairfield Hills core campus sometime between the late night hours of March 7, and midafternoon on March 8.
Someone damaged windows at Canaan House, Norwalk House, and at a white house located behind Norwalk House. A damage estimate was not available.
Police ask anyone with information on the criminal mischief to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Hawleyville Accident
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Taunton Lane and Mt Pleasant Road about 3:30 pm March 7.
Motorist Shirley Jessup, 80, of 25 Taunton Ridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Ford Contour sedan, was traveling northward on Taunton Lane and then stopped at a stop sign at that roadâs intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, police said.
At that time, motorist Kendra Majetta, 31, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus sedan, was traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, according to police.
The Ford then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Mt Pleasant Road, but the two vehicles collided, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Jessup a written warning for a stop sign violation.
BMW Off Road
Motorist Melina Erkan, 16, of Monroe who was driving a 2001 BMW X-5 SUV eastward on Botsford Hill Road, near Swamp Road, about 8:52 am on March 8, began to negotiate a sharp curve in the road to the left, but then went off the road's right shoulder and struck an embankment, police said.
Erkan was not injured. Police said they gave Erkan a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Sedan Vs Pole
Motorist Katlen Torres, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Saturn Ion sedan westward on Wasserman Way, near Mile Hill Road South, about 10:20 am on March 10, was negotiating a curve in the road, but the auto slid on the wet pavement and went out of control, police said.
The Saturn then spun around and went off the road's eastbound shoulder and struck a utility pole, police said.
Torres reported pain, but refused a medical evaluation, police said. Torres received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.
Missing Coins
About 1:15 pm on March 10, an Old Bethel Road resident returned home and discovered that a set of collectible coins, which have a face value of about $20, was missing from the premises, police said. The coins are commemorative quarters and dimes. A gray, older model sedan, which may be connected with the disappearance, was seen in the area, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the missing coins to contact them at 203-426-5841.
Two MV Charges
Police said they spotted motorist Maria Goncalves, 53, of Danbury driving a vehicle eastward on Glover Road while using a handheld cellphone, so they stopped her on Queen Street to investigate at about 9:11 am on March 12.
Police charged Goncalves with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.
Goncalves was released on $250 bail for a March 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police report.
Driving Violations
While on patrol about 10 am on March 12, police spotted motorist Daniel Dodd, 26, of Watertown fail to use a directional signal when making a right turn in the area of Wasserman Way, near Oakview Road, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police charged Dodd with failure to use a turn signal, driving with a suspended license, and driving without automotive insurance.
Dodd was released on $100 bail for a March 29 court appearance, police said.
Fairfield Hills Incident
Police received a report of suspicious activity occurring at the town-owned Fairfield Hills campus, off Mile Hill Road South, on the night of March 12, so they went to the area to investigate.
Police said they charged Eric Ramirez, 18, of Oxford with second-degree criminal trespassing and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Ramirez allegedly kicked in a door of Cochran House and then entered the building, police said.
Police said they issued Edward J. Mandeville, Jr, 18, of Oxford an infraction ticket on a charge of simple trespassing in connection with the Fairfield Hills incident.
Also, police gave a youth under age 18 an infraction ticket for simple trespassing. People under age 18 are categorized as a "youthful offender" in such cases and their identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
Ramirez was released on $100 bail for a March 22 court appearance, according to police.
DUI Arrest
Police said they investigated the presence of a suspicious vehicle in a commercial parking lot at 51 Berkshire Road at about 12:50 am on March 13, after which they charged motorist Joseph Muchanski, 61, of Shelton with driving under the influence.
After processing the arrest, police released Muchanski on $100 bail for a March 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Rollover Crash
Motorist Kwabena Afriyie, 50, of 14 Clapboard Ridge Road, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV on Osborn Hill Road about 8:12 pm March 7, encountered an icy patch of pavement, resulting in the SUV crossing the road, striking a curb and rolling over onto its side, police said.
Afriyie was not injured. Police said they issued Afriyie a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.
Hyundai Vs Deer
Motorist Alec Ravana, 16, of 15 Farrell Road was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan northward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road, about 10:52 am on March 12, when a deer entered the street and collided with the auto, police said.
Ravana was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Slippery Surface
About 7:36 pm on March 7, motorist Edmund Auer, 18, of Redding was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition SUV southward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnycake Lane, when he encountered an icy patch of roadway, skidded off the right road shoulder and struck some guardrailing, police said.
Auer was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Auer for traveling unreasonably fast.
At about 8 pm in the same area, motorist Ryan Pineau, 21, of 47 Waterview Drive was driving a 1995 Honda Civic coupe southward on Mt Pleasant Road, when that vehicle encountered some icy pavement, went off the right road shoulder and struck a snowbank, police said.
Pineau was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Pineau for traveling unreasonably fast.
South Main Street
At about 11:37 am on March 11, police said they stopped motorist Yemba Omole, 36, of Danbury near 151 South Main Street for driving a vehicle without functioning brake lamps.
After investigating, police charged Omole with failure to have brake lamps, driving without a license, misuse of a marker plate, and failure to have automotive insurance.
Police released Omole on $200 bail for a March 24 court appearance.
Brushy Hill Road
Motorist Megan Lambo, 22, of 8 Country Squire Road was driving a vehicle on Brushy Hill Road near Bentagrass Lane at about 10:30 pm March 11, when police stopped her vehicle to investigate.
Police report they charged Lambo with failure to drive to the right on a curve, traveling too fast, and misuse of a marker plate.
Police released Lambo on a written promise to appear in court on March 25.
SUV Rollover
Motorist Kiara Esperanza, 18, of Southbury was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV eastward on Interstate 84, about 4,000 feet east of Exit 11, about 2:20 am March 8, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and entered a ditch, causing it to overturn, state police said.
Neither Esperanza nor a passenger were injured. State police said they issued Esperanza an infraction for failure to stay in the proper lane.
Highway Accident
Motorist Rafael Medina, 37, of Baltimore, Md., who was driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup truck about 6:30 am March 8, was traveling on the Exit 11 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, when the vehicle skidded on some icy pavement and crashed into a snowbank along the left road shoulder, state police said.
Medina was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.
Two Vehicles
Motorist Elliot Malary, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Wasserman Way, near Oakview Road, stopped for traffic conditions about 7 pm March 14, after which eastbound motorist Andrew Husvar, 21, of 12 Bradley Lane, who was driving a 1999 Kia Sephia sedan, struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Husvar a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Church Hill Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road at the driveway for the Blue Colony Diner at about 4:48 pm March 14.
Westbound motorist Casey Kearns, 17, of 11 Dogwood Terrace, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan, was attempting to make a left turn into the dinerâs driveway, as motorist Charles Miller, 64, of Roxbury was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastward, police said.
The driver of an eastbound noncontact vehicle waved for the Toyota to make the turn, but the Dodge, which was traveling in another eastbound lane, inadvertently struck with the turning Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Kearns a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Berkshire Collision
About 2:52 pm on March 15, motorist Elizabeth Valentine, 66, of 30 Bradley Lane, who was driving a 2001 Saab 9/5 station wagon eastward on Berkshire Road, west of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Eastbound motorist John E. Fries III, 60, of Madison, who was driving a 1989 Lincoln Town Car sedan, then struck the rear end of the Saab, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fries a written warning for following too closely.
