Blaise Smeltzer of Sandy Hook received his master of arts degree in teaching science education from Western Governors University, Salt Lake City, Utah. The university held its semiannual commencement ceremony on February 12 and recognized 1,922 students who have completed their degrees since July of last year.

Local students attending Wooster School, Danbury, were named to the school’s 2010-2011 honor roll for the first semester of the school year. Seventh grade student Joanelle Tran was named to the high honors list, as was eighth grade student Blair Hamilton; eighth grade student Max Bratter was named to the honor list, freshman Christopher George was named to the honors list, and freshmen Benjamin Bratter and Steven DaSilva were named on the commended list. Sophomore Paige Hamilton was named on the high honors list, as was junior Corey Allred. Juniors Nicole Lang and Emily McInerney were named to the honors list. Among the seniors, Grace Hamilton was named to the high honors list, Evan Gilchrist to the honors list, and Samuel Spiegel to the commended list.
