Baltimore Consort Performance Scheduled

WASHINGTON — The Baltimore Consort will be the next featured performers in the St John’s Concert Series on Saturday, April 2, at 8 pm. The highly acclaimed group, founded in 1980, has made its reputation through its study and performance of early English, Spanish and French popular music and the relationship between folk music, art and dance.

The Baltimore Consort originally organized to study the music of Shakespeare’s time, and went on to explore the rich heritage of North American music as well. In 2009 they released Cancione!, a collection of Spanish Renaissance music.

The premier interpreters of early English, Scottish and French popular music, the Baltimore Consort features Mary Anne Ballard (treble, tenor and bass viols), Mark Cudek (cittem, bass viol), Jose Lemos (countertenor), Larry Lipkis (bass viol, recorder, crumhorn), Ronn McFarlane (lute) and Mindy Rosenfeld (flutes, whistle, crumhom).

Tickets are $20 per person. A portion of all ticket prices goes to the St John’s Fund which provides emergency financial assistance to residents of Washington.

St John’s Episcopal Church is at 78 Green Hill Road in Washington. For more information, call 860-868-2527 or visit www.stjohnswashington.com.
