Wesley Students Celebrate World Of Books
Wesley Learning Centerâs staff recently celebrated the magic of reading with students through a monthlong series on understanding the different parts of the book and the differences between authors and illustrators.
After reading a story with their parent at home, the children presented âbook reportsâ on what they had read, sharing a summarization of its contents in front of the class. The students also had the opportunity to write and illustrate their own pieces.
During the recent culminating book fair, the children, dressed as their favorite storybook characters, came to school with their families. The students shared the books they had written and illustrated. The day also featured guest speaker Jennifer Thermes, a Newtown resident author of the childrenâs book When I Was Built. Ms Thermes read her book and afterward answered questions from students on her experience as a professional writer.
