This Summer, Town Players Will Be Celebrating

70 Years Of Community Entertainment

Town Players is preparing to celebrate its 70th year of bringing quality entertainment to Newtown and the surrounding communities.

This season’s offering of comedy, drama, and holiday mirth will open with Michael Parker’s The Amorous Ambassador. In this whirlwind farce the ambassador decides to play golf in Scotland, prompting his wife and daughter to make plans of their own. The arrival of a Marine Corps captain and a bomb scare add to the confusion.

With director Evelyne Thomas at the helm, audiences can get ready for a boatload of laughter and mayhem. The Amorous Ambassador will run April 29 through May 21. Ms Thomas traditionally directs the season opener.

Director Ruth Anne Baumgartner will offers A Perfect Ganesh by Terrence McNally, July 1-23. It’s the tale of two women who travel to India in search of themselves: one recently diagnosed with cancer, the other mourning the murder of her gay son.

A kaleidoscope of both comic and harrowing episodes brings each woman to acceptance and affirmation in a breathtaking conclusion.

Fuddy Meers will premiere on September 2 and run through September 24. Claire has a rare form of amnesia that erases her memory every time she goes to sleep.  Her chipper husband and stoned son, a foul-mouthed hand puppet and a kidnapped lady-cop (who’s claustrophobic) are just a few of the characters audiences will meet as Claire comes closer to discovering her past life and everything she thinks she’s forgotten.

Mary Poile will direct the show Variety called “…an antically zany … play.”

Just in time for Halloween, Dracula comes our way, October 28 through November 19. Director Suzanne Kinnear will bring to life the tale of Lucy Seward, a young lady who suffers from a malaise no one understands. Dr Van Helsing is brought in to consult, and Count Dracula’s bloodsucking activities are revealed.

Town Players will be working with the version is penned by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston.

Finally, plan on a selection of holiday readings and music in December, celebrating both the holiday season and Town Players’ big anniversary. Holiday performance dates are December 2-11.

Ticekt prices for all seats this season are $15, $12 for matinees. Season subscriptions for all five shows are $60, offering a discount of $15 off of the regular price.

Town Players offer productions at The Little Theater, which is on Orchard Hill Road in Newtown.
